5 Reasons to Avoid DIY AC Repair in St. Nicholas Historic District, NY

When your air conditioning system starts acting up, it’s tempting to take matters into your own hands and attempt a DIY AC repair. While do-it-yourself projects can be rewarding, attempting to fix your air conditioner without professional assistance can lead to a series of issues that can be costly and inconvenient in the long run. At Domestic Air Conditioning, we strongly advise against DIY AC repair for the following reasons.

  1. Complex Systems Require Expertise

Air conditioning systems are intricate and complex machines that require a deep understanding of their inner workings. Domestic Air Conditioning’s team of trained technicians possesses the knowledge and experience needed to diagnose and fix any AC problem efficiently. When you attempt a DIY repair, you may misdiagnose the issue, resulting in further damage.

  1. Safety Concerns

AC repair involves handling potentially hazardous materials like refrigerants and electrical components. Without proper training and safety equipment, you risk injury to yourself and damage to your property. Our certified technicians at Domestic Air Conditioning are well-equipped to handle these situations safely, ensuring your well-being and the safety of your home.

  1. Warranty Protection

Many air conditioning systems come with warranties that can be voided if unauthorized repairs are attempted. Domestic Air Conditioning’s services are warranty-compliant, ensuring that your AC system remains protected. DIY repairs can jeopardize this coverage, leaving you responsible for costly repairs or replacements.

  1. Time and Cost Efficiency

At Domestic Air Conditioning, we understand that time is of the essence when your AC system malfunctions, especially during St. Nicholas Historic District, NY’s scorching summer months. Attempting a DIY fix can lead to delays, causing discomfort and inconvenience. We offer prompt and cost-effective AC repair services, saving you time and money.

  1. Long-Term Reliability

Opting for professional AC repair ensures that the problem is resolved correctly the first time. DIY fixes often provide temporary solutions that can lead to recurring issues. With Domestic Air Conditioning, you can rest assured that your AC system will be restored to its optimal condition, providing long-term reliability and peace of mind.

Have a question?

David H. King Jr., the developer of what came to be called “Striver’s Row”, had previously been responsible for building the 1870 Equitable Building, the 1889 New York Times Building, the version of Madison Square Garden designed by Stanford White, and the Statue of Liberty’s base. The townhouses in his new project, which were originally called the “King Model Houses”, were intended for upper-middle-class whites, and featured modern amenities, dark woodwork, and views of City College. King’s idea was that the project would be “on such a large scale and with such ample resources as to ‘Create a Neighborhood’ independent of surrounding influences.”

The houses sit back-to-back, which allowed King to specify that they would share rear courtyards. The alleyways between them – a rarity in Manhattan – are gated off; some entrance gates still have signs that read “Walk Your Horses”. At one time, these alleys allowed discreet stabling of horses and delivery of supplies without disrupting activities in the main houses. Today, the back areas are used almost exclusively for parking.

King sold very few houses and the development failed, with Equitable Life Assurance Society, which had financed the project, foreclosing on almost all the units in 1895, during an economic depression. By this time, Harlem was being abandoned by white New Yorkers, yet the company would not sell the King houses to blacks, and so they sat empty until 1919-20, when they were finally made available to African Americans for $8,000 each. Some of the units were turned into rooming houses, but generally they attracted both leaders of the black community and upwardly-mobile professionals, or “strivers”, who gave the district its colloquial name.
